NeoNews Bio

Last week, I got an assignment to write up a bio about myself for the NeoGenomics company news letter. After trying for a while, I discovered that I have a really hard time talking about myself. That’s when I asked Gabi to write my bio for me.

She came up with this awesome write-up:

Jonathan started working at NeoGenomics at the beginning of October as the Digital Marketing Specialist. He is very excited to be working for Neo, putting his skills to work during this exciting time of company growth.

Before coming to NeoGenomics, Jonathan was the marketing director at dESCO, a software developer in Fort Myers that made management software for local service companies. Jonathan has also worked in sales for an online marketing company, MediaBrains. He seems to have an affinity for companies with nontraditional capitalizations.

Other previous work include being a journalist and photographer for the Herald-Star Newspaper in Ohio, hobnobbing with the local power players and capturing breaking news; managing Steubenville’s Parks and Recreation activities, running a community swimming pool and recreation center; and lifeguarding at pools and beaches, pulling drowning kids out of the water and yelling, “No Running!”.

Jonathan and his beautiful wife Gabi moved to Florida at the end of 2008. Gabi is a Florida native, but somehow Jonathan seems more used to the heat. They moved from Steubenville, Ohio, where both attended Franciscan University. Jonathan completed his Bachelors in writing (but would rather coerce his wife to write his bio for him than talk about himself) and his MBA shortly afterwards.

Jonathan has a two-year-old son Matthew who keeps him very busy at home. He expects his second son to arrive on February 2, which will make for an excellent early birthday present. Jonathan’s birthday is February 9, which you should know in case you’re planning a shopping trip.

Jonathan enjoys riding his bicycle as his primary mode of transportation. He salivates at the Trek store, dreaming of his next pedal-powered vehicle, but is perfectly happy on his 1974 Schwinn Super Le Tour. Jonathan is on that bike, rain or shine (although the rain is usually not on purpose), heat and humidity, and through Florida’s version of cold, year round.

He also relishes a great read, be it fiction (Wolfe, Rand, Faulkner, Steinbeck, and Dostoyevsky to mention a few), political, or technological. The ins and outs of website construction fascinate him, and he is planning to take a crash course in programming.

Jonathan’s favorite movie is Amadeus, his drink of choice is a snifter of brandy, and he zens best to anything by the Decemberists. He rocks out on the electric guitar and harbors fantasies of being in a rock band again someday. Jonathan also dabbles as a graphic designer, having designed the cover and case for his wife’s second CD of original music.

Jonathan won’t tell his whole life story here. You’ll have to ask him what it was like growing up in Hong Kong and forgetting how to speak Cantonese. But for stories like that, you’ll have to get to know him first and maybe buy him a few beers…

Say “Hi” to him on Chatter or stop by his desk in the Fort Myers marketing department.

Thank you Gabi for writing this bio for me, and for helping me realize I need to learn to talk about myself.
